Conference “SSE and the Commons: Envisioning Sustainable and Post-capitalist Futures”: Call for Papers

Faro (Portugal): 2nd Forum on Solidarity and Ethical Finance

After the success of the 1st national Forum on Solidarity and Ethical Finance, this year the event will take place in Faro (Portugal) from the 19th to 21st of February 2016.

“More than theoretical exhibitions on the subject of ethical and solidarity-based finance, we intend to create spaces for dialogue, sharing, analyzing in depth, because we are sure that we will all have a key role in the creation and development of ethical financial instruments in Portugal“.

Portugal: the national Solidarity Economy Network (RPES) is born

Red Portuguesa Economia SolidariaGood news through the Iberian peninsula. The Portuguese network of the solidarity economy (RPES) has been created. About a year ago, at a meeting held in Chaos, small village located in the Centre of Portugal, Rogerio Roque Amaro, Professor of the ICSTE, University in which since more than ten years there is a doctorate of social and solidarity economy, launched the idea of creating a network of solidarity economy in Portugal. After a first surprise, the challenge was picked up by a group of individuals and organizations that have co-ordinated to materialize this idea.

On August 7 2015, the founding Assembly was held in Chaos, where one of the most interesting experiences of solidarity economy has been  developing for many years. At this meeting, the founding members adopted many decisions: develop a manifesto and a logo, create a few working groups, disseminate the project, adopt some entry criteria, which have been discussed and improved. Portugal: Forum Finanças éticas e solidárias (16-17 Jan 2015)

The Ethical and Solidarity Finance Forum aims to be an agglutination space for different entities (Ngos, associations and other collectives, research groups, etc.) and citizens with an interest in the construction of financial instruments in Portugal, which put the economy at the service of the people.  It is a 2 day event – an open space for debate, reflection and demontrations of national and international initiatives, favouring the encounter between Portuguese, Spanish and European networks, with experiences in the area of alternative and solidarity economy.  The program is available here.

Santarem (Portugal): MANIFesta’s 10th edition

On October 9-12th 2014, twenty years after its first edition, the MANIFesta – Assembly, Fair and Festival for Local Development and Solidarity Economy – returns to Santarem (Portugal), the city where it originated. The ANIMAR network is promoting this Special Edition together with the local organizations APRODER e a ADSCS, under the motto “New and old challenges for Local development”.

A (re) meeting space for people and civic solidarity entities for rural and urban Local development, the MANIFesta facilitates the sharing and exchange of experiences and ideas on the present and future of Local development and of Social and solidarity economy, in the current Community framework for 2014-2020-priorities, perspectives and opportunities, on themes such as the future of family farming, as well as a showcase of products, services and initiatives made from the creative capacities of individuals, communities and organizations of Portugal and other Portuguese-speaking countries and regions, in particular in Latin America.
