Meyrin Economic Forum – MEF: Social, solidarity and ecological economy, in concrete terms?

March 13, 2020

9:00 am / 5:00 pm UTC+2

Chambre genévoise de l’ESS

The Meyrin Economic Forum (MEF) is the largest regional economic forum in the Lake Geneva region. It brings together more than 600 business leaders from all over the region and numerous public, institutional and private partner organisations. This year, it focuses on the Social and Solidarity Economy!

Social, solidarity and ecological economy, concretely? How can I make it compatible with the reality of my company?

Speech by Christophe Dunand, co-founder of the Geneva Chamber of SSE – 13 March at 10am

“The social and solidarity economy is now recognized as a pioneer in sustainability (finance, agriculture, housing, etc.). Faced with ecological emergencies, particularly climate change, all Geneva businesses must make the transition or will no longer have any reason to exist. I will quickly present why the SSE is paving the way for the sustainable economy of tomorrow and how it is a matter of sharing all good practices with all companies that make the transition choice. Cooperating to build Geneva’s sustainable economy quickly together will be a central argument of my conference”.

The forum is free, there will be many interventions, debates and opportunities for inspiring encounters.

Conference on the response of worker-owned cooperatives to non-standard employment Online - 3 December, 2020
Non-standard workers are becoming the new standard. This raises several concerns on ever-deteriorating labour rights and conditions, endangered decent income, access to social rights, and collective representation. Since the industrial revolution, worker-owned cooperatives respond to people’s needs to guarantee their employment. Many non-standard workers such as own-account workers, freelancers, and platform workers use the cooperative solutions to achieve more quality, job security, often access to social protection, and dignity in their work lives. In the last months, the COVID-19 pandemic showed that the recognition of non-standard workers, including platform workers, remains a challenge in national and European labour regulations, leaving workers vulnerable and making fitting policies complicated to obtain. The failure to adapt national and European labour legislation to cover non-standard workers worsened the impact of the current crisis, putting workers incomes and livelihoods at risk. Following the publication of the ALL FOR ONE report, CECOP’s ALL FOR ONE online conference will look at what the “cooperative laboratory” across Europe came up with in order to face the adverse effects of non-standard employment. Originally planned as a live conference, our online conference will be the cherry on top of a month-long communication campaign, in which we will highlight different aspects of the report through social media channels and distribution lists. Everyday forefront defenders of fair and quality work conditions for all workers, CECOP invites you to meet these new cooperatives who unite workers, and mutualise risks and solidarity.
Join us on December 3rd online from wherever you are for this one of a kind event!
