Why this Summer University?

One thing is obvious: the utter failure of a system based on finance and the commodification of humanity, life and the planet. The regressive policies pursued by many governments are aggravating the living conditions of the peoples in favor of an increasingly rich minority.

Yet many of us are taking action in the face of rising inequalities and poverty, climate change, and the regression of democracy in France, Europe and the world. The associative, social and citizen movement, in all its components, from local to international, plays a major role in countering the rise of a deleterious climate on all levels. We have a great responsibility to sensitize citizens and convince them to mobilize, to commit, to act more and more.

It is necessary to show that it is possible from now on, starting from initiatives and experimentations at different scales of our territories, to build the alternatives to the dominant model and this in the interest of the greatest number. But for the impact of all our various actions to be stronger, we need to come together, support one another.

That is why we call on all organizations of social transformation and solidarity, associations, unions, independent media, collectives, networks, all those who will recognize in our initiative, to participate in the co- construction of a “Solidarity-based, Citizen-based and Rebel Summer University” which will take place from 22 to 26 August 2018 in Grenoble.

MIND OUR BUSINESS The transformative power of sustainable and inclusive business models

Webinar

1 December 2020, 14:00 - 15:30 CET   Registration link : https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScLZX1Fr9eQa22eD8WBqFg_VJAnfGvKlHfnGRAVhbeb3PcAaQ/viewform   *only registered participants will receive the zoom link   As COVID-19 continues to rage across the globe and we all await the arrival of a vaccine, CONCORD, FTAO and Cooperatives Europe believe we should use this time to fundamentally rethink and rebuild our current systems better. Current economic and business models have proven to be brittle and unsustainable, while viable and resilient alternatives capable of pursuing simultaneously social, environmental, economic and governance goals, should be supported, scaled up and become mainstream. Only then will we be able to coherently address the massive setbacks in our progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. With the political priority to construct an economy that works for people, the upcoming European Social Economy Summit and Action Plan and human rights due diligence and sustainable corporate governance legislation, European political leaders seem to share this reflection. Over the coming months, unique opportunities present themselves to integrate these ambitions also in the EU’s external action. The EU is agreeing on its 2021-2027 external funding instruments and programmes, its Team Europe initiatives and responses to COVID-19. The EU is reviewing its trade policy, agreeing on a new relationship with African Caribbean and Pacific States and will continue to shape its bi-regional partnership with Africa. High time to discuss with key decision-makers, civil society, business and partner country representatives how to make the most of these opportunities, which we simply cannot miss!
