The Ripess Europe coordination meeting took place in Budapest from 26 to 27 September, hosted by the Hungarian member Kifesz and the H.Otto Institute. The delegation visited a farmhouse which hosts a community center promoting a local circuit cooperative of producers and artisans, farmers’ markets and a CSA, in Tahitótfalu, a village in the northern part of Pest County, on the Szentendre Island in the Danube, 50km from the capital. The initiative has been launched by a local doctor who has bought the farm, renewed it. His aim is to set up a museum of old farming tools. It is already a place for local feasts and concerts. The plan of the people there is to make the whole Szentendre Island 100% organic farming and renewable energy… with solidarity economy circuits. Ambitious but possible, especially thanks to the committed people who live there.
