RIPESS Europe offers an internship of 4 to 6 months on ‘research and communication of the solidarity economy in Europe’. Hosted by one of the network’s founding members (in Italy), the intern should be following a university course, speak fluently the two main languages used by the network (English and French), and possibly Spanish or German would be a plus. The internship will start from the end of April 2016.

The tutoring of the internship will be made by the organisation which will host the trainee in connection with the RIPESS Europe Coordination Committee.

The internship has the following objectives:

(a) provide technical support on the action of research conducted by the network on the practices and the actors of solidarity-based economy in Europe.

(b) contribute to reorganize and improve creatively RIPESS Europe communication;

(c) support the preparation of the next General Assembly of RIPESS to be held in France in Villarceaux in June (logistics, comunication), and provide support to the event (taking notes, verbatim reporting, communication) and reporting of the event afterwards.

The intern will have a computer and an internet connection and will participate in the meetings and of the organisation which will host it, as well as those of the Coordination Committee.

The intern will receive compensation in the amount of €500 per month for 4/6 months, travel expenses related to the object of the internship will be refunded. He / she must be personally insured for civil liability.

Arielle NdimbiarivolaArielle Ndimbiarivola completed an internship at the RIPESS EU during her Masters studies, under the direction of Eric Dacheux, professor at the Clermont Ferrand II university, in the context of the UFR Applied trade, languages and communication. During his internship, Arielle was has been crucial helping for the organization of the Ripess Europe General Assembly within Solikon 2015 in Berlin.  She also participated in the implementation of the Newsletter and ensured with pugnacity the facilitation of the members’ requests. On 17 October, she presented her thesis entitled “Intercultural cooperation through communication” where she examined the challenges and difficulties but also the wealth related to the diversity of the members of a European network dedicated to solidarity economy. We will publish this document as soon as she makes it available. We learned that she has since found employment immediately in the field of her speciality. Thanks to the quality of her presence in the past few months on our side, we wish well for her professional and personal development.

The United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) is an autonomous research institute within the UN system that undertakes multidisciplinary research and policy analysis on the social dimensions of contemporary development issues. Through our work, we aim to ensure that social equity, inclusion and justice are central to development thinking, policy and practice.UNRISD is now accepting applications for an internship position, starting in February 2015, to assist with the project on “Potential and Limits of Social and Solidarity Economy” (www.unrisd.org/sse) under the supervision of Pascal van Griethuysen, Research Coordinator.While at UNRISD, the intern will be asked to:

  • provide research assistance for the project indicated above;
  • conduct library and Internet searches and assist with drafting and editing potential publications;
  • contribute to ongoing working tasks related to project management, fundraising activities, external relations, and event organization;

Qualifications, skills and competencies:

  • Education in public policy, development studies, economics, sociology, political science or a related field at an accredited university, and have academic and professional experience in relevant issues. We are especially interested in candidates with strong expertise in social and solidarity economy and the connections with finance and sustainable development. Knowledge in alternative forms of finance, including ethical banking, financial cooperatives, microfinance, complementary currencies etc. is an asset.
  • Written and spoken fluency in English is essential, good working knowledge in French and Spanish is desirable.

This UNRISD internship is in accordance with the rules and regulations of the UN Internship Programme. 

  • At the time of application, applicants must meet one of the following requirements (as per UN Secretariat rules regarding interns)
    (i) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
    (ii) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
    (iii) have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (i) and (ii) above) and, if selected, commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
  • Interns are not financially remunerated.
  • UNRISD is not responsible for interns’ travel expenses to and from Geneva, or for mandatory medical insurance during the period of the internship.

The deadline for applications is 18 January 2015 (23:59 Central European Time), with a start date around 1 February 2015, to be mutually agreed. The usual duration of the internship is three months, with the possibility of extension.
